Godly Play (Ages 3-Grade 3)
St. Matthew's Room, St. Mark's Room, St. John's Room and St. Luke's Room in the Undercroft
Using a Montessori approach, children enter into parables, silence, sacred stories and liturgy in order to discover God, and the world around them. Godly Play assumes that children have some experience of the mystery of the presence of God in their lives, but lack the language, permission and understanding to express and enjoy that in our culture. The teachers tell stories and ask “I wonder…” questions meant to guide the children on their spiritual journey and help them fall more deeply in love with God. The Godly Play rooms are eye-catching, sacred spaces used only for the purpose of finding the presence of God. The multi-sensory materials are playful, fun and meaningful.
Godly Talk (Grade 4 -5)
St. Augustine's Room in the Undercroft
Lessons are based on the weekly lectionary and used to explore and facilitate a deeper discussion about Biblical answers, and how to apply those teachings in our lives. Through a greater understanding of themselves and an emphasis on serving others, we explore the world around us and begin the formation of what our role as Christians in the world should be. This class also begins to strengthen student's social connection at church through coordinating several opportunities outside of the classroom. These events are to encourage and grow the group's bonds as they matriculate into Rite-13 and EYC.
