Advent begins right after Thanksgiving! This season is more than shopping, decorating and entertaining.  Advent prepares us for the Coming of Jesus Christ, which is historical, personal, and universal. The Christmas celebration is much enhanced when spiritual preparation through Advent keeps our focus on the reason for the season.

Join us for a four-hour retreat the week before Thanksgiving. We will begin with Scripture, specifically the words of Isaiah read the four Sundays of Advent:

  • Practice Lectio Divina: listening, reflecting, and sharing insights.

  • Meditate on personal insights (beginners welcome)

  • Enjoy lunch and conversation.

  • Engage in the practice of Centering Prayer (beginners welcome)

Taking Advent to heart and sharing our insights instills in us the true comfort and joy of the Incarnation, the “reason for the season”. This joy is greater than anything in this life, especially in times of struggle and grief. Bring your hopes, doubts, curiosity, and experience. Bring a journal, and a friend or family member!

This retreat begins at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 21, in the Gray House Conference Room & Chapel at 4936 Dexter Avenue. Handicap access is available at the Penticost Street entrance.

Please RSVP by Sunday, November 16, to Mthr. van Liew at mthrvanliew@asecfw.org, or call 817-732-1424.
